I admit: In terms of equipment I am a perfectionist. For over 15 years now, I am going on cycle tours. I constantly tried to improve my equipment. My maxims are lightweight and good quality.

On this pages I try to explain, why I have choosen what I carry with me. Detailed lists of equipment can also be found with the specific journeys. Of course, equipment is always depending on where the journey will go. The following tips refer to the kind of journeys I prefer: Tours in remote mountain regions.

What I write here, is my very personal point of view, which is of course not the only truth. There are many other ways of doing it...

Defects on the road often lead to experences, you would not want to miss. I also like to remember when my back wheele rim broke along the Taklamakan desert or when my free wheele broke just before the Everest Base camp...

From this point of view, it sounds, as if it would be best to start not with a perfect equipment :-) But even with a good equipment, there is still plenty of adventures ahead....

In general, I go for simple, rugged technique. The less exotic your technique is compared to what you will find in the countries you visit, the more likely you can find help when there is trouble.

On all my jouneys I have never been sponsored by any company! The recommendations made here are all based on my own experience.

Besides all technology and equipment: At first they should be a means to an end, which allows us to experience great cycling tours!

Hi Betzgi,

Gruss
Beat
