Every year some new electronic devices can be found in our bags... I am no different here. If you take the power supply unit, battery recharger and all the cables of every single device, you end up with a whole bunch of stuff. There is certainly plenty of possibilities to save weight and space here!

On this trip I will take the following devices:

  • Laptop with external USB-harddisk
  • Digital SLR camera
  • iPod
  • GPS
  • Shortwave radio
  • Headlamp

Additionally the following items:

  • An external rechargeable battery. Can be charged with the power supply unit or the bike dynamo (with rectifier and voltage regulator) and has a variable output of 5-20V. I use it to supply the laptop or the battery charger
  • A power supply unit which I can use directly for the laptop or to supply the external rechargeable battery. An the cable I have two banana connectors, simply the best 'travel adapter'
  • A general battery charger that can charge AA and AAA batteries (GPS, Headlamp, shortwave radio) and the camera batteries. It has 12V input with is supplied by the external rechargeable battery

In order to connect everything I need a couple of cables. See picture above for an overview.

Charging battery with dynamo

I have a side-wheel-dynamo added with some electronic that supplies me with 12V DC. This dynamo is only for charching my battery.

Why no hub dynamo? My front wheel has priority and is more important. So I want to have a real good hub there (none with a dynamo). So I rather have 2 not connected systems.

Everything is mounted in a little box below the rear rack.
