Kailash! ...a pilgrimage

From Zhongdian (Shangri La) over Litang, Tagong and Danba to Chengdu. A great ride, very varied. Because it is complettely outside the TAR it is mostly possible to do without problems. There are 24'000 vertical meters to cover along the 1800km!

Road:

Mostly paved. Only the first two passes after Zhongdian are dirt road. But the pavement is often very poor with lane grooves and generally bumpy.

Accomodation, food:

Accomadation can be found in Zhongdian, Xiangcheng, Litang, Yajiang, Tagong, Danba. From here on there are many places. Good shopping in all the above places too. In between often simple shops. Camping is always possible.

Streckenupdate Zhongdian - Litang:

Die Strasse ab Zhongdian ueber den ersten Pass ist asphaltiert worden. Asphalt Ende neu bei km 116.0 (N28º 30.177' E99º49.077')

Der Daxenshuan Pass soll bis ins 2010 asphaltiert sein, wir haben noch nichts davon gemerkt.

Das Dorf Jaiwa kommt bereits bei GPS Waypoint 322 und nicht erst bei 323. Unsere gemessenen Koordinaten fuer Jaiwa lauten: N29º45.673' E100º22.483'
