I am not constantly travelling too. Here you can find some pictures of activities throughout the year...

Gross Ruchen, Stucklistock

9th march

Rather late we reach Brunnital on saturday where we want go on a short tour for Wäspen and enjoy a raclette there. But then we see the perfect conditions in the Ruch Chälen. No we don't want to miss that and so we start for the Gross Ruchen at almost 11 o'clock! Only two others are on their way up. After we have reached them we lead together to the summit.

The downhill is sheer madness. 20cm of fresh powder snow and no trails yet - a very exclusive pleasure!

The Föhn is supposed to last for sunday and that means good weather. We climb Stucklistock. Yesterday two have already made a nice trail and today no one else is arround. A very varied tour: at first the steep slopes with bushes then directly ascending the glacier and finally a fine rocky ridge to the summit. Yet another superb descent down the steep slopes brings us back to the Meiental.

Hohsandhorn

3rd march

Towards Hohsandhorn

Dani got as a christmas present a long weekend that he can spend with me. Well that's what I call a good present...

The forecast predicts rain and sturm for the weekend in the north so we head south. When we reach Oberwallis on saturday is pouring. After a couple of coffees we believe to see the first improvemnts. Finally we start in the Binntal directly to the Binntal hut. Sturm, fog and snowfall dominate the afternoon while we play games inside.

on sunday it is still snowing and the visibility is only little over zero. At 10 it clears up and with map and GPS we search the way up to Ofenhorn. The final slope we don't climb anymore, there have been plenty of wumm-sounds and spontaneos avalanches already. We ski down to the lake and up to the Refugio Claido Bruno. Very nicely placed but except for one little room that can be reached by a chicken ladder it is totally shut up. Despite the stormy winds we enjoy the evening outside.

Fantastic weather on monday but the wind is still rather storm like. We climb Hohsandhorn and enjoy a fantastic view over the Valais alps. We ski down the powdery slopes where no trackes are yet to the Binntal. Finally the wind slows down and we can make a longer break and lie in the sun...

Spannort

24th february

With pre summer temperatures we climb Spannort on sunday. The heat is unbelievable. Despite the perfect conditions there are only few people on the mountain. We don't mind and enjoy clear views all the way to Ortler.

So we enjoy the first corn snow downhill in february already, strange world...

Rorspitzli & Galenstock

17th frebruary

Downhill from Rorspitzli

Rorspitzli a wanted to climb again for a while already. With Res I start in the Meinental on saturday. No wonder I wanted to come back here again. It simply is a great tour with everything that makes it a great tour: a long climb, a bit of scrambling at the top and a fantastic view.

Here in the north slopes the snow is still powdery and they are endlessly long...

If I go on tour with Alex then it has to be Galenstock "the most beautiful mountain at all" [quote Alex]. Sunday early we start in Real. Passing Albert Heim hut we reach the Tiefengletscher. For the dessert we climb the nice north ridge. There is very little snow here, but that makes it almost easier.

After that we enjoy the last rays of sun at Tiefenbach with a beer and toast for a great tour. Alex is certainly not quite wrong...

Brunnistock

11th february

Better then at the moment the conditions can hardly be. So we extend the weekend for another day.

With Dani I climb Brunnistock. Can the week start better than with a ski tour on monday with perfect weather, powder snow and a summit Raclette? I don't think so...

Gross Ruchen

10th february

After the january snowport-tours we go to the Brunnital for a final weekend. Here we can stay in a cosy hut. By the time the oven runs with zero-emissons the hut has already been properly smoked. In the afternoon we climb Wäspen where we stay almost to the final sun light.

On sunday we climb Gross Ruchen. Powder snow from the summit to the valley floor, somthing rather rare on Gross Ruchen. All the more we enjoy it.

Try out of me new tent and New year

1st january 2008

For 15 years my tadpole has accompanied my on all my travels. But now the outer tent has become rather decayed. For the upcoming trip it was time for a new tent. For the first try out it already had to undergo an endurance test.

After the ski tour to the Hoch Fulen I camp right on the summit where I enjoy a fantastic sunset and a rather cold night thereafter (-22°C).

The days over new year we spend in the Galmihornhütte. We carry loads of food and booze up to the hut and have a good time there. To quicken the appetite we climb Vorder Galmihorn.
