Illimani (6438 m) is the highest ans southernmost summit of the Cordillera Real. It can be seen from everywhere in La Paz. A mighty and impressive mountain that is climbed quite often. There are 5 summits over 6000m of which the highest is Picu Sur. 

According to the indian legend, the mountain Mururate that lies just next to it should have tried to be higher then Illimani. Whereafter Illimani became angry and cut off its head. Since then the cut off head lies 200km in the west in the shape of the vulcano Sajama.
